Merryland Learning Center (MLC) opened its door in June 1980. It offered Nursery, Kindergarten and Preparatory at the time, with a handful of 60 pupils. As years passed by, enrollment was steady on the rise until a very remarkable growth was noticed in 1985. It was a clear manifestation of the community’s growing awareness towards quality education that MLC had to offer.

       In 1988, MLC opened its door for Grade School learners. The name Scuola Madonna della Scala was adapted and has been the recognized name since then. The name envisions the Philippine educational system compared to a ladder or a stairway - an elevating task that every student must complete - for every grade level is one step that leads to success.

         Scuola Madonna della Scala initially offered grades I to IV.  It started during the school year of 1988 - 1989 with 62 pupils and three teachers. As the year passed by, Grade V was opened followed by Grade VI in 1990 - the Elementary Department was then complete.

 

             Enrollment showed rapid growth. SMS had not only attracted learners of Malibay, but also neighboring communities. The school opted to extend its services in 1997 - 1998 by including the Secondary Department. Presently, SMS has grown and grown into the strong institution upholding Christian values with the active pursuit in producing successful students for God and mankind. 

            In the advent of the 4th Industrial Revolution, the school had become a beacon of light to learners in the 21st century, as it offers the best that today's time can give,  through quality education.
